You know you love someone when you drive all the way up to Brisbane for a spider

Yes, a spider. Or a scorpion.

I drove to Brisbane [which is 60km from Gold Coast] to get him a couple of scorpions.

He wasn't feeling well so I had to go with my girlfriends to the Pet World and fetch the spiders for him.

As soon as I walked in the pet shop, I asked for a gold scorpion.

Your partner called and told me to give you the one that he wanted.

I stood there dumbfounded. You see I never think of him as my partner. I think of him as my boyfriend.

I mean, when someone says partner, I think homosexual relationship.

He's my boyfriend not my partner.

Partner seems so permanent. I'm thinking life-long partner. Something to that effect.

It weirded me out. So I just paid for my purchases and walked off.

Partner, Karen chided. I looked up she had the wicked grin on her face.

Partner. Hmm... It's funny even people who don't know you think of you as permanent partnership, she added.

Yikes, I said.

We laughed.

The drive for the spider was good. It made me realise the things you do for love.

I never imagined myself being a slave for someone. Being there for him hand and foot.

Fetching him things. Picking him up and dropping him off somewhere. But with him, I don't mind. Because doing those things for him makes me realise that I am capable to care for another human being.

That I am capable to be considerate of other people's feelings.

That I am capable to be selfless.

That I am capable to love another person.

And I know that I love him. I am completely and hopelessly in love with him.
